Thomas Levey 1787 - 1862

This is the Last Will and Testament of me Thomas Levey of Stansted Mountfitchet in the County of Essex Carpenter. I direct that in the first place that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses be paid as soon as convenient after my decease and it is my wish that my funeral may be conducted as plain as possible and the coffin to be of plain oak. I give to my dear wife Isabella Levey all my household furniture and other household effects. I give and bequeath unto each of my children Thomas William Charles George and Harriet a legacy of five pounds. I give and devise all those my freehold cottages or tenements and herestaments situate in Stansted and in the occupation of Beddow and Robinson unto executors hereinafter named in trust that is to say to receive the rents and annual produce of the said cottages and from time to time to pay the same unto or permit the same to be received by my dear wife Isabella Levey during the term of her life for her separate use and immediately after the decease of my said wife in trust to convert the said cottages into money either by public auction or by private contract and to divide the proceeds equally between my five children before named share and share alike as tenants in common and use as joint tenants. It is my will and I hereby direct that if my wife declines to carry on my business of Carpenter and can arrange with my sons Thomas and Charles to manage it for her then the stock in trade shall remain undisturbed for her use in carrying out the said business but if after two months from my decease my two sons aforesaid shall not agree but decline to carry on my said business for my said dear wife's benefit then I direct that the whole of my stock in trade together with all the remainder of my personal estate whatsoever shall be sold and converted into money and the proceeds invested by my executors hereinafter named in the names of my said executors in government or real securities in England or Guaranteed Railway Stock and stand possessed of the same stocks funds and securities upon the trust following that is to say Upon trust to receive the dividends interest and annual produce of the said stocks funds and securities and from time to time to pay the same or permit the same to be received by my said dear wife Isabella Levey during her life for her separate use and immediately after the decease of my said wife In trust to divide equally between my five children aforesaid as tenants in common share and share alike for their own respective use and benefit. I appoint my sons Thomas and Charles and my dear wife Isabella Levey Executors to this my will In witness whereof I the said Thomas Levey the testator have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal this tenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine ----- Thomas Levey ------ signed by the above named Thomas Levey the testator as and for his last will and testament before us both then present together and who in the presence of the said testator and of each other have thereunto subscribed our names as witnesses hereof -- Joshua Green -- James Marsh.
Proved at London 5th July 1862 by the oaths of Thomas Levey and Charles Levey the sons and Isabella Levey Widow the Relict the Executors to whom admon was granted.

Probate Record:
On the 5th July 1862 the Will of Thomas Levey late of Stansted Mountfitchet in the County of Essex Carpenter deceased who died on the 5th day of January 1862 at Stansted Mountfitchet aforesaid was proved in the Principal Registry of Her Majesty's Court of Probate by the oaths of Thomas Levey of Stansted Mountfitchet aforesaid Carpenter and Charles Levey of same place Carpenter the sons and Isabella Levey of same place Widow the Relict the executors therin named having been first sworn duly to administer.
